Stepping off the Shinkansen at Shin-Osaka Station, I embarked on my exploration of Japan’s most spirited city. My journey took me through the neon-lit wonderland of Dotonbori, where the iconic billboards and mechanical signs created a mesmerising spectacle. The bustling streets of Shinsekai and the lively atmosphere of Kuromon Ichiba Market offered glimpses into both the nostalgic and culinary hearts of the city, each area teeming with visitors eager to experience Osaka’s renowned food culture.

A Peaceful Discovery: Namba Yasaka Shrine
Seeking respite from the city’s energetic pulse, I made my way to Namba Yasaka Shrine. The sight that greeted me was extraordinary – a massive lion-head stage structure dominated the shrine grounds. Unlike the tourist-heavy spots I’d visited earlier, here I found a serene atmosphere that offered a different perspective on Osaka. The unique architecture of the lion’s head, believed to devour evil spirits and bring good fortune, provided a striking contrast to the modern buildings surrounding it.

Evening Retreat: Zentis Osaka
My final destination was Zentis Osaka, an elegant boutique hotel in the sophisticated Dojimahama district. The property exemplifies contemporary Japanese hospitality with its minimalist design and refined atmosphere. The hotel’s restaurant, UPSTAIRZ, particularly impressed with its innovative fusion of local ingredients and French culinary techniques.
