Grand Sumo tournaments are held in January (Hatsu Basho, Tokyo), March (Haru Basho, Osaka), May (Natsu Basho, Tokyo), July (Nagoya Basho, Aichi), September (Aki Basho, Tokyo), and November (Kyushu Basho, Fukuoka). Savour “chanko nabe,” the hotpot that supports the physique of sumo wrestlers

Chanko nabe is a traditional hotpot dish that has been an integral part of sumo wrestling culture for centuries. Originally developed to help sumo wrestlers gain weight and build strength, this nutritious and hearty meal is typically prepared with a variety of ingredients such as meat, fish, and vegetables, simmered together in a rich broth. The dish not only provides the necessary calories and nutrients but also fosters a sense of camaraderie among wrestlers as they share the meal.

On our tour, you will have the opportunity to savour chanko nabe, experiencing firsthand the flavours that sustain and support the physique of sumo wrestlers.
