The Oriental Galapagos: A Remarkable Journey to Tokyo’s Hidden Realm “Ogasawara Islands” 6 days

Meeting Point: Takeshiba Pier

Finish Point: Takeshiba Pier

Recommended Season: Spring, Summer and Autumn

Duration: 6 days

Venture 1,000 kilometres south of Tokyo to discover a realm where time-honoured traditions meet pristine wilderness—the remarkable Ogasawara Islands. In an age of instant connections, these magnificent isles remain gloriously secluded, accessible solely by the distinguished Ogasawara Maru, a vessel that makes its stately 24-hour passage but once a week.

This UNESCO World Heritage sanctuary presents a fascinating ecological narrative: having never been connected to any continent throughout geological history, it harbours an extraordinary treasury of endemic flora and fauna. Here, nature has composed its own unique symphony, orchestrating an environment that rivals the celebrated Galápagos of the East.

Unlike the manicured resort islands that dot the Pacific, Ogasawara stands apart in splendid authenticity. These isles remain wonderfully unspoiled, offering discerning travellers a genuine escape into nature’s own drawing room. Here, one discovers a paradise where luxury lies not in artificial amenities, but in the privilege of experiencing one of Earth’s last untamed frontiers.

Our carefully curated sojourn features three nights on Chichijima, the archipelago’s principal island, complemented by an enchanting day voyage to the intimate shores of Hahajima. During the seasonal migration, fortunate visitors may witness the majestic ballet of whales traversing these pristine waters—a reminder that here, nature, not man, conducts the performance.

For the distinguished traveller seeking experiences beyond the ordinary, Ogasawara presents an exclusive opportunity to step into a world where wilderness and wonder reign supreme.

Chichijima: The Crown Jewel of Ogasawara’s Natural Splendour

Immerse yourself in the captivating embrace of Chichijima, the principal isle where Ogasawara’s natural wonders converge in magnificent harmony. Often lauded as the ‘Galápagos of the Orient’, this remarkable sanctuary presents an exquisite tableau of endemic landscapes that have evolved in splendid isolation.

Your sojourn will be enriched by the expertise of our distinguished local naturalists, who shall unveil the island’s most closely guarded secrets. These passionate custodians of Chichijima’s natural heritage will guide you through carefully crafted experiences, ensuring an intimate encounter with this pristine paradise.

Each moment on Chichijima promises to be an exclusive journey of discovery, where nature’s finest artistry awaits the discerning explorer.

Hahajima: Where Nature’s Grand Theatre Unfolds on an Enchanted Isle of 450 Souls

Embark on an exclusive voyage aboard the Hahajima Maru, sailing 50 kilometres south from Chichijima’s Futami Port. This intimate two-hour journey across azure waters leads to one of Japan’s most compelling island narratives.

Hahajima’s story is as remarkable as its landscape. Once home to 2,800 souls, this diminutive isle bears witness to profound historical transformations. In 1944, its inhabitants were compelled to evacuate, leaving the island to nature’s devices for two decades. Following a period under United States Naval administration, this treasure was restored to Japan on the 26th of June 1968.

Today, a close-knit community of 450 residents dwells in the charming Shizukazawa settlement, nestled around Oki Port. Our carefully planned expedition traverses the island’s singular thoroughfare—a remarkable route that unveils vistas more dramatic and untamed than those of its northern sister, Chichijima.

As you journey through this pristine wilderness, observe an extraordinary collection of endemic species—rare birds soar overhead, whilst unique flora and insects create a living museum of natural history. Here, nature presents itself in its most magnificent form, offering privileged visitors an encounter with one of Japan’s last truly wild frontiers.

The Ogasawara Maru: A Refined Maritime Journey Through the Pacific

Experience the sophisticated charm of the Ogasawara Maru, a vessel that gracefully bridges Tokyo’s Takeshiba Port and Chichijima’s Futami Port in a stately 24-hour passage. The third-generation ship, inaugurated in 2016, elevates the art of ocean travel with its enhanced premium accommodations, offering discerning passengers an experience that harmoniously balances maritime tradition with contemporary comfort.

As your sojourn draws to a close, partake in one of the archipelago’s most cherished traditions—a magnificent farewell ceremony that exemplifies the warmth and spirit of island hospitality. Watch as the local community gathers at the harbour, creating a moving spectacle that has touched the hearts of travellers for generations.
